Many researchers in Zoology, Botany, and Geosciences are involved in interdisciplinary, conservation-oriented research. These faculty are providing the ecological knowledge needed to help address current environmental challenges. A variety of labs
are working to better understand and protect organisms including amphibians, marine fishes, vascular plants, and arthropods, as well as habitats such as grasslands, rivers, and marine reefs. OSU faculty work to connect science and policy through involvement in state, national, and international advisory panels. In addition, the COMPASS program, housed in the Zoology Department, not only facilitates communication among scientists, policymakers, nongovernmental organizations, the media, and the public, but also translates scientific concepts into policy-relevant forms.
