Freshwater ecology research at OSU encompasses the Pacific Northwest’s diverse freshwater habitats as well as ecosystems in other parts of the world. The Blaustein lab group conducts research on global amphibian declines, UV radiation effects on amphibians, disease ecology of pond communities, and behavioral biology of amphibians. The Lytle lab group conducts research in Oregon, the Southwestern US, and Mexico on aquatic insect biodiversity patterns, the influence of flow regimes on aquatic insect life histories and behaviors, and the effects of dams on aquatic communities. Outside the College of Science, the Fisheries & Wildlife Department is home to a large number of aquatic
biologists. A long-standing tradition is the Monday Morning Meeting symposium, which features research talks focused on the ecology and management of freshwater ecosystems. Freshwater research facilities include the nearby Oak Creek research and teaching watershed and the H. J. Andrews Experimental Forest located in the Cascade Mountains.
