Invasive species are one of the most serious challenges facing conservation biologists today. Accordingly, the ecology of invasive species has increasingly become a focal research area for researchers in the College of Science. Invasive species research occurs in marine, estuarine, and grassland communities. Research programs this rapidly developing field focus on understanding the spread rates and impacts of exotic species. Researchers also apply this basic ecological knowledge to develop strategies to manage exotic species. A particular focal area of research examines the introduction of natural enemies as a form of biological control of exotic plants and animals.
